Tricycling is the most energy efficient form of transportation ever devised, getting the energy equivalent of up to 1,500 miles per gallon (according to an MIT study).
This incredible tidbit of knowledge comes from the website of my good racing bike friend, Men Werro (click HERE to visit). He keeps the locals up to date on how well our coastal city is doing with regards to making human powered humans safer around all those toxic and deadly 3 ton monsters roaming the pavement.
Actually, the original quote used the word “bicycling” instead of what I so happily inserted. I would imagine that tricyclists might get the energy equivalent of closer to 2,000 miles per gallon due to the fact that we are actually comfortable and don’t have to waste so much energy balancing and resting our butts every few miles.
By the way, this link may be the study mentioned for anyone who wishes to learn more about the logical reasons to ditch the car. It’s a rather large 160 page PDF file, and since I’m on an old and slow dial-up computer today, I have yet to confirm this. If this is not the study that includes the information, google around a little and let us know what you find.
